Bernice M. Zmia

Bernice M. Zmia, 92 of Streator passed away Friday evening (March 16^th) at OSF St. Francis Medical Center with her family at her side.

A visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 – 7 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home with the rosary recited at 3:45PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Wednesday at 11:30 AM at the St. Michael the Archangel Church.  Burial will be in the St. Casimirs Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons Ryan, Tony, Tyler, Logan, Cody, Aaron, Chris and Nick.

Bernice was born on July 15, 1925 in Streator to John and Fern (Brooke) Mollo.  She married Frank Zmia on April 26, 1944 at the St. Stephen’s Church.  He preceded her in death on December 25, 1982.

Surviving are children Valerie (Gary) Wellman of Pontiac, Charlotte Chalmers of Baltimore, Maryland, Frank (Marlene) Zmia of Minonk, John (Cindy) Zmia of Streator, Nancy (Greg) Pflibsen of Streator, Joseph (Nancy) Zmia of Streator and Jane (Fred) McClellan of Streator, grandchildren, Aaron Wellman, Amy Smith, Sharon Chalmers, Lynn Robinson, Christopher and Nicholas Zmia, Leigh Ann Vickers, John Anthony and Ryan Richard Zmia, Victoria and Logan Pflibsen, Cody Zmia, Tyler and Olivia McClellan and 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great- great- grandson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son in infancy, a grandson in infancy and a sister Ann Crane.

Bernice attended St. Stephen’s School and Streator High School.  She formerly cooked at the PNA Hall and Twin Creeks Golf Course.  Bernice was a member of the former St. Casimirs Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She is currently a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church.

Memorials may be made to the PNA Scholarship Fund or to a charity of the donors choice.
