Beverly J. Sargent, 79 of Streator passed away Monday morning (April 22, 2019) at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 – 11:30 AM at the St. Michael the Archangel Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11:30 AM at the church with Fr. Ryan Mattingly officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Gilead Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
The Winterrowd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Beverly was born on November 29, 1939 in Decatur to Anthony and Leona (Moffett) Scherer. She married Dr. Wendell Sargent on February 17, 1966 whom she worked with as his dental assistant. He survives.
Also surviving is a son Steven (Kathleen Lauer) Sargent of Murfreesboro, TN, sisters Marilyn Scherer of Decatur, Joyce Fundenburger of Indianapolis, IN and Jackie (Wayne) Davis of Logansport, IN and 12 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a son Anthony C. “Tony” Sargent on January 2, 2018, and a brother Robert Scherer.
Beverly graduated from the Macon High School where she was active in choir, chorus and pep club. She was a cheerleader for 3 years and F.H.A. member for 4 years. She majored in speech education at the University of Illinois. She was inducted into the Delta Zeta Sorority and served as production manager for the Uof I theater. Beverly spent a year serving with the American Red Cross in Korea where she hosted a radio station known as “Donut Charlie”. Beverly loved theater, working with the gingerbread players as well as acting and producing local plays at Engle Lane Theater. She will be long remembered and forever missed.
Memorials may be made in her name to any Catholic Charity.
