David D. Thies, 67, of Streator, passed away Saturday (October 29, 2022) at his home.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 4 from 4-7 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home with a small service following visitation. Private family services will be with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Cole, Ken Talty, Kevin Snow, Gralin Roehrig, Bill Cashmer, and Scott Hagi.
Dave was born on July 8, 1955, in Streator to Donald and Dorothy (Edwards) Thies.
Surviving are daughters, Michelle (David) Novak of Tolono and Amy Thies of Bloomington, sister Debra Meyers of Augusta, GA, and former spouse Kimberly Thies of Streator.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Dave graduated from Woodland School in 1973 and attended Joliet Junior College. He was the owner and operator of Thies General Trucking in Streator, something he took great pride in. His hard work and dedication were key to the business’ numerous successes over the years.
He was a supporter of the Streator Ramp Builders and the Streator 4th of July Committee, providing them with supplies, storage, and anything else they needed. He didn’t do it for the recognition; it was just the “right thing to do” to support his community.
Simply put, Dave was the “guy to call.” He could often be found loading and unloading trucks on the lot, on the phone scheduling his next delivery, plowing snow for friends and members of the community, spreading lime and fertilizer for area farmers, or sitting down to chat with a beer in hand. He was a friend to many, and will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Streator Ramp Builders or a charity of the donor’s choosing.
