Donald L. Johnson 73, of Streator passed away Wednesday (May 1, 2013) at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator surrounded by his wife and family.
A visitation will be held Sunday from 3-7 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11AM at the funeral home with Charles Cline officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his nieces , Sherry (Michael) Elliott, Bonnie (Jerry) Libby, and Jessi Ragusa, nephews , Terry and Kevin Cook, son , Donald Johnson, brother , Edward Johnson, granddaughter , Cassi Kubiak, and friends Dan and Karen McNeill. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Dan and Ryley Taylor, niece, Amy (Michael) Ragusa Goodrich, step-son, Jim Taylor, grandson, Ryan Kubiak, and brother-in-law, Charles (Kathy) Ragusa.
Don was born April 25, 1940 in Long Point, to Harold and Bonnie (Morrow) Johnson.
He married Deborah Ragusa on December 5, 1991 in Ottawa, Illinois. She survives.
Don is survived by his wife , best friend and eternal soul mate , Deborah (Ragusa) Johnson of Streator, daughter Laurie (Michael) Kubiak of Normal, brother , Edward (Carole) Johnson of Normal, sister , Lillian (Phillip) Cross of Flanagan, son , Donald Johnson of DelCity, OK, stepson , James Taylor of Streator , grandsons , Daniel and Ryley Taylor of Streator and Ryan Kubiak of Normal and granddaughters, Cassi Kubiak of Normal and Ashley and Meaghan Johnson of Broken Arrow, OK, and great granddaughters, Miss Addie Harlan and Miss Sydnie Taylor both of Streator .
Don was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Shirley Iverson, step-daughter, Cindy (McCann) Kinkade, step-son, Eric Taylor and granddaughter Jenni Taylor.
Don is a graduate of Dwight Township High School. He had been employed in his younger life at Armstrong Lumber Yard, manager of National Tea Grocery Store, Streator Foods Grocery Store, and Ben Franklin. After Don retired he joined PPM LLC Management Group. He and his wife Debbie were Area Managers in the State of Illinois and manager of Streator Manor Apartment Community.
Don fought courageously and twice won the battle of cancer. He was a hard working, gentle giant in his own way. A wonderful husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, don lived and appreciated life to the fullest.
