Donald V. Topolski, 79 of Streator passed away Tuesday morning (May 2, 2023) at Heritage Health in Streator.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday from 2PM-6PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home with a memorial service at 6PM at the funeral home with full military honors being conducted.
Burial in the Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
Don was born on September 17, 1943, in Streator to Donald A. and Sandra (Davis) Topolski.
He married Pamela Lowns on November 9, 1968, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. She survives.
Surviving is his wife, Pamela Topolski of Streator, daughter Carrie Hrasch of Streator, grandson, Evan Donald Hrasch of St. Charles, MO, half-brother, Donald “Joker” A. (Kathy) Topolski of Lake Wildwood, sister-in-law, Ilene Topolski of Manville, nieces and nephews, Richard (Lori) Topolski of Streator, James Topolski of Kangley, Kim (Todd) Russow of Manville, Krista (Bob) Turner of Ancona, Heather (Chris) Maus of WI, Michael (Deeann) Topolski of Metamora, Chris (Alice) Oliver of Magnolia, great nephew, Taylor (Melissa) Turner of Bloomington, cousins, Debra Murray of Streator and Gregg (Deb) Murray of TN and several other Davis family members and his grand dogs and best buddies, Toots McGee, Gracie Bean, Luna Skye and Penny Laine
He is preceded by his father, Donald A, Topolski, mother, Sandra Losh, stepfather, James P. Losh, stepmother, Marian Topolski, brother, William Topolski, stepsister, Lorretta Oliver, aunt, Dorris Murray and cousins, Danny Murray and Margaret Pennell.
He was member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
Don attended St. Anthony Catholic School and graduated from Streator High School in 1962. He worked for the telephone company which started as GTE then Verizon and later became Frontier where he retired after 34 years.
Don served in the U.S. Navy. He served in 3 tours on the U.S.S Mount Baker Ammunition Ship in Vietnam.
He was a life member of both the Streator VFW post #1492 and American Legion post #217. He was a member of the Streator Eagles and Streator Knights of Columbus. Donald was also a life member of the Howard County Vietnam Veterans in Indiana. He was a past commander of the Am Vets post 312.
Don was an avid lover of music and often played as a DJ at many events. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter, and mushroom hunter. He loved attending Vietnam reunions around the country and was most recently a member of the Peoria Honor flight and visited Washington DC.
Don was loved by everyone and never met a stranger in his life. He always had a great sense of humor and had a joke every day.
He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
