Douglas W. DeWalt

Douglas W. DeWalt, 59 of Grand Ridge passed away Tuesday evening (August 9th) at the Kindred Hospital, Peoria.

A visitation will be held Sunday from 4 – 6 PM at the Grand Ridge Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 AM at the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in the Grand Ridge Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be David, Daniel and Jon DeWalt, Kyle DeWalt, Ryne Forth and Carol Gronwold.

Douglas was born on November 12, 1956 in Morris to Warren A. and Janice R. (Quick) DeWalt.  He married Marsha King on October 13, 1979 and she survives.

Also surviving is son Kyle D. DeWalt of Tinley Park, daughter, Kelsey (Ryne) Forth of Marseilles, a grandchild due in March of 2017, brothers, David W. (Nancy) DeWalt, Daniel W. (Susan) DeWalt, Jon (Jackie) DeWalt all of Ottawa, sister, Carol (Chris) Gronwold of Oak Park, mother-in-law, Marjorie King of Grand Ridge, sisters-in-law, Patricia (Richard) Miller of Ottawa and Nancy (Harvey) Shapiro of San Francisco, CA and several nieces and nephews.

Douglas is preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Donald L. King.

He attended Ottawa Elementary Schools and graduated from Ottawa High School and attended Joliet Jr College.

Douglas was employed with Lyondell Basell Chemical Plant in Morris as an electrical planner for 39 yrs.  He was a former Grand Ridge School Board member, served on the Grand Ridge Cemetery Board, Ottawa Girls Fast pitch Association board member, coached soccer at the Ottawa YMCA, served on the Grand Ridge youth baseball association board, coached Grand Ridge little League baseball Cargill team and also was an Umpire.  Douglas was a Chicago White Sox fan, Blackhawks fan and Chicago Bears fan.  He enjoyed hunting and working in his yard.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church or the Grand Ridge Fire Department.
