Dwight W. Galyen, 78 of Streator, a wonderful servant to the Lord, his family, his church, and his friends was called to Heaven on Tuesday evening (April 23, 2013) at St. Maryâs Hospital.
Please help us celebrate his life at the Winterrowd-Hagi Funeral Home with a visitation on Thursday, April 25 from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10AM with a visitation from 9:00 10:00 AM at Central Church of Christ.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tanner Galyen, Tyler Galyen, Troy Dimmig, Bill Coates, Cliff Goodwin and Justin Durdan. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders of Central Church of Christ.
He will be sadly missed by his friends and family, leaving his loving wife of 58 years, Maryellen Mingee Galyen, whom he married on August 7, 1955 in Georgetown, his four children Teena (Andrew) Downey, Todd (Jamie) Galyen, Tracy (Pat) Sokol, and Troy Galyen. His eleven grandchildren and five great- grandchildren enjoyed his sense of humor, patience and âmaster of all tradesâ attributes. Also surviving, along with his immediate family, a sister, Catherine, in Texas and several nieces and nephews in Illinois and California.
He was born in Georgetown, IL on April 22, 1935 to Lola Hawkins and Cliff Galyen.
Before retiring from Mitsubishi, he worked for NCR and owned the business in Streator called âYour Type Place.â Dwight was known for his ability to do all types of home improvement such as carpentry, plumbing, and electricity. He donated countless hours to doing that work for other people. This includes Central Church of Christ, where he was an Elder for 58 years.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and a sister.

All who knew him will be forever touched by his faith in God, his generosity and his love.
