Elliott O. Peterson, 90 a resident of the Illinois Veteranâs Home in LaSalle and formerly of Streator and Seneca passed away Wednesday afternoon (April 16, 2014) at St. Margaretâs Hospital in Spring Valley.
A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9-11AM at St. Paulâs Lutheran Evangelical Church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11AM at the church.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Todd Coates, Toby Coates, Scott Simons, Matt Anderson, Chad Caputo and Michael Sheedy.
Elliott was born on November 24, 1923 in Ashland, WI to Chester and Gertrude (Westlund) Peterson.
He married Esther Reiten on August 1952. She passed away September 1970.
He later married Betty Cave Handzo on December 30, 1976 in Streator. She survives.
Surviving is wife Betty Peterson of Peru, son, Paul âMoeâ Peterson of Seneca, daughter, Julie (Richard) Maierhofer of Seneca, step-daughter, Georgene Kirschbaum of Peru, son-in-law, Curt Simons of Streator, twin brother, Lyle Peterson of Portland, OR, 7 grandchildren, Jena (Michael) Sheedy, Jill (Chad) Caputo, Janelle Maierhofer, Todd (Pam) Coates, Toby (Amy) Coates, Stacy (Matt) Anderson and Scott (Anna) Simons, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, Esther Reiten Peterson and step daughter Sharon Simons.
Elliott attended Washburn grade and High School in Wisconsin and retired from Enron formerly Northern Petro Chemical in 1986 and worked 20 years for Dupont. He was a member of St. Paulâs Lutheran Evangelical Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a radio man during WWII stationed at Pearl Harbor.
His hobbies included wood working, gardening, fishing, dancing and attending all his grandchildrenâs sporting events.
