Elveda A. Kakara, 82 of Streator was called home on Wednesday (Jan. 18th) at St. Mary's Hospital. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 6PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 9:30AM at the St. Michael the Archangel Church. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery.
Elveda was born on December 22, 1929 in Streator, Illinois to John and Rose (Wahl) Centko.
She married Elmer G. Kakara on August 16, 1952. He passed away November 15, 1983.
Surviving are sons, Tim (Kathy) Kakara of Streator, and Randy (Rhonda) Kakara of Streator and daughter, Janet (Don) Ondrey of Ottawa, 5 grandchildren, Chris (Jeff) Porter, Ann (Joe) Nasvytis, Michael, Tom, and Robin Kakara, 8 great-grandchildren, brother Florian (Marty) Centko of Streator, sisters, Elaine Cheli of Streator, and Frieda Elmore of KY, and sister-in-law, Nancy Centko of Streator.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Terry Centko, and close friend Russell Keck.
Elveda attended St. Anthony grade school and Streator High School. She was a member of the former St. Stephen's and currently St. Michael the Archangel Church. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed at the Streator clothing factory. Elveda enjoyed going up north fishing, penny ante poker, and trips to Las Vegas. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
