Esta Mae Cashmer, 98, of Cornell, surrounded by family, joined her loving husband and son in heaven on May 28, 2013, after a short illness.
A visitation will be held Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Winterrowd Funeral Home, Streator and Saturday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Cornell United Methodist Church. Pastor Larry Frank will officiate. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Cornell United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Pontiac. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Dwayne Phelps, Jason Kovalcik, Brandon Bressner, Donald Winterrowd, Christopher Schram, Marc Ugo, and special friend Don Oesch.
Esta was born October 19, 1914 near Dana to Theodore and Anna (Hackett) Paris. She married Donald Everett Cashmer on June 29, 1935 at Plymouth, Ind. He preceded her in death on August 29, 1988.
Survivors include six daughters, Donna (David) Hughes, East Peoria; Delores (Paul) Noe, Creal Springs; Darlene (Timothy) Riddle, Rockford; Dorothy (Douglas) Ahlenius, Heyworth; Denece (Gary) Bressner, Pontiac; and Dee Esta Winterrowd, Cornell. She is also survived by one sister, Thelma Humston, Guntersville, Ala. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 14 step-great grandchildren, and 8 step-great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Dean on June 10, 1956, brothers Raymon, Elbert, and Floyd Paris and sisters Avy Fulkerson, Lorene Lange, and Marjorie Smithers, one son-in-law, Clyde Phelps, and two step-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cashmer lived most of her life in the Cornell area. She and her husband farmed for many years. She retired as postmaster of the Manville Post Office July 1, 1983. She was a member of the Cornell United Methodist Church and served as Memorials Treasurer for many years. She was an active member of the Cornell Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included reading, traveling (she has visited all 50 states), making quilts, and collecting thimbles. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She always thought of others and let friends and family know by sending lots of cards and letters.
