Gene T. Burkett

Gene T. Burkett, 88 of Cornell passed away Friday (April 14^th) at Evenglow Health Care, Pontiac.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 – 7 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 AM at the Cornell United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in the Cornell Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be son-in-law Terry Freese, grandsons Caleb and Joshua Freese, nephew John Greenman and Bill Berge and Matt Orr.

Gene was born on May 15, 1928 in Cornell to Early and Mammie (Odle) Burkett.  He married Marjorie Mitchell on April 25, 1954.  She preceded him in death on January 12, 2010.

Surviving is daughter Susan (Terry) Freese of Cornell, grandsons Caleb (Alyssa) Freese and Joshua Freese, great-grandson Benson Gregory Freese and sister Muriel Testa of Wilmington.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Greg, daughter Gayle, sisters Louise Bronson and Helen Greenman, brothers Louis Mounts, Foster, Ervin, Clark and Joe Burkett.

Gene attended Cornell Grade School and High School.  He retired from farming in the Cornell area, and was a member of the Cornell United Methodist Church, Livingston County Farm Bureau and the Two Cylinder Club.  Gene enjoyed refurbishing tractors.
