James Stephen Durdan

December 18, 1932 — December 22, 2015

James Stephen Durdan, 83 of Grand Ridge passed away Tuesday afternoon (December 22nd) at his home.

A visitation will be held Sunday from 3 – 7 PM with the rosary recited at 2:45 PM at the Grand Ridge Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 AM at the St. Mary’s of the Fields Church, Grand Ridge.  Burial will be in the Grand Rapids Cemetery, Grand Ridge.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandchildren, James and Tom Durdan, Rachel Duffield and Caitlin Rinker, brothers, Bob and Bill Durdan and brothers-in-law, Gus and Dale Rinker.

Jim was born on December 18, 1932 in Grand Ridge to Stephen and Edna (Kuhn) Durdan.  He married Marilyn Rinker on January 12, 1957.  She passed away on October 19, 2013.

Surviving are children, Patricia (Calvin) Duffield of Ransom, Greg (Lynn) Durdan of Grand Ridge, Peg (John) McMahon of Des Moines, Iowa, Paula Sue Durdan of Springfield and Steve (Diane) Durdan of Grand Ridge, 10 grandchildren, brothers, William (Phyllis) Durdan and Robert (Cheryl) Durdan both of Grand Ridge and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Mary (Lyle) Nichols.

Jim attended Grand Ridge Grade School and Marquette High School.  He served in the US Army from 1954 until 1956 and farmed in the Grand Ridge area all of his life.  He was a member of the St Mary’s of the Fields Church and a member of the LaSalle County Farm Bureau and was a former Grand Ridge School Board member.  Jim enjoyed playing baseball in his earlier years and raising pigs on the farm.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Grand Ridge Fire Department or the Grand Rapids Cemetery Association.
