James "Jim" Hirkala

June 3, 1954 — September 9, 2021

James “Jim” Thomas Hirkala, 67 born on June 3, 1954, passed away September 9, 2021.

Following cremation, a visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 – 7 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 AM at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joe Sedlock (long time best friend), brothers-in-law Bill Englert, Randy Lene, David Jackson, Leonard, Joe, John, Chuck and Gary Reeland, nephews Josh and Seth Besonshek.

He married Ada Reeland on May 29, 1982.  Son of Doris and Joseph Hirkala.  He is survived by his wife Ada, children Ashley (Brent Anderson) Hirkala and Joseph Hirkala.  Grandchildren Brooklyn Anderson and Colt Reeser.  Mother Doris Hirkala, sisters Carol (Bill) Englert, Cyndi (Randy) Lene and Sandie (David) Jackson, Brothers-in-law Leonard (Jackie), Joseph, John, Chuck and Gary Reeland, Sisters-in-law Karen Libby, Jacqueline Bliss, Zelma Logan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pre ceding him in death was his father Joseph, grandparents Jean and Roy Sornberger, John and Suzanne Hirkala, In-laws Leonard and Loretta Reeland, nephews Kirk and Luke Englert, nieces Miranda and Chrisandra Englert, Nicole and Hannah Harcar and Trisha Logan, brother-in-law James Reeland, sister-in-law Dorothy Reeland.

Jim retired from U.S. Foodservice a fter 35 years of service.  Jim was one in a million.  Always the first to help.  His children and grandchildren were everything to him.  After retiring he was his granddaughters babysitter which was one of his greatest joys and another greatest joy was his grandson Colt.  Jim also took in his niece Michelle Stillwell after her mother passed.  Jim never knew a stranger and was loved by so many and will be deeply missed.  He enjoyed many years fishing with his family at his parents cabin on the Vermillion River and at Lake Chetek.  He took pride in and enjoyed yard work and being with his family.

Our Jim will be met with open arms by his loved ones who passed before him.
