John Craig Petersen

John Craig Petersen, 79 of Streator passed away Friday morning (June 9, 2023) in Licking, MO.

A memorial visitation will be held Friday (June 30^th) from 4 – 6 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.

A private family burial will be held at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

John was born on December 17, 1943, in Streator to John Craig Petersen Sr and Eleanor M (Ratliff) Petersen.  John was united in marriage to Naomi Ann (Turner) Petersen on May 5, 1979.  She preceded him in death on January 19, 2022.

He is survived by his sons, John (Chasity) Petersen Jr of Licking, MO and Christopher Petersen of Streator, and by his 8 grandchildren, Johnathan, Emily, Payton, AnJillian, Austin, Hunter, Alivia and Araya.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Naomi, and also by many of his union brothers that he has had the honor of having lifelong friendships with from Labor Local #393.

John was employed by Laborers Union Local #393 in Marseilles where he retired after 50 years of membership.  John retired proudly with full pension.  John enjoyed taking on the family trait of being a licensed barber, receiving his schooling and license in Springfield.  He was also a longtime member of the Streator Eagles Local #645.

John enjoyed playing poker, euchre, and playing pool from which, he received many awards and trophies for.  John also enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandchildren, furthermore “PdmPete” loved visiting with his proud fellow union brothers and sisters reminiscing over old stories.  “PdmPete” also was very proud to carry the flag with the union brothers and sisters in the Labor Day Parade every year.
