John D. Shinkey

John D. Shinkey, 70 of Long Point passed away Wednesday (Feb. 19th) at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
A visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-4PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 4PM at the funeral home with cremation rites will following services.
Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery at a later date.
John was born July 3, 1943 in Streator, IL to William and Camilla (James) Shinkey.
He married Sandy Krumscheid on September 5, 1964. She survives.
Also surviving are children, Bob (Kim) Shinkey of Streator, Tammy Shinkey of Peoria, and John (Kathy) Shinkey of Flanagan, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sister, Pat Sutton of New Mexico, and brother, Edward Doden of OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Terry Shinkey, granddaughter, Jennifer Shinkey and sister, Carolyn Himan.
He attended Streator grade schools and graduated Streator High School in 1961. John was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Streator.
John retired from Caterpillar in Pontiac in 2008. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, making people laugh and mostly telling people about Jesus.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in honor of his granddaughter Jessica Shinkey.
