Lawrence Earle Riss, 59, of Kangley, Illinois
passed away Tuesday December 2, 2008
at the Minneapolis Veteran's Affairs Medical Center
in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
A Celebration of Larry's Life will be held Sunday December 7, 2008
from 12-2pm at Winterrowd Hagi Funeral Home. There will be a private interment
to follow at Emery Green Cemetery of Kernan, Illinois.
Larry was born in Streator, Illinois
to Earle and Joan (Blackburn) Riss
September 5, 1949. He grew up in Kernan, Illinois and graduated from
Streator Township High School.
Larry enlisted in the United States Army on
August 30, 1968. He served in the Vietnam War. Larry returned home after
sustaining injury from shrapnel during combat.
For this, Larry was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was released from Active Duty on August 28, 1970. Larry then graduated from Illinois Valley Community College with an Associate in Science
degree. He graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Larry was employed at Vegrzyn Sarver &
Associates, Inc. as a land surveyor Crew Chief for 30 years. He enjoyed early
retirement this past year due to chronic illness.
During this time he moved to Monticello, Minnesota to be close to family.
Larry married Christine Crouch in August of 1969.
He later married Marjorie Dose September 27, 1975 and shared a life with her for over 20 years.
Larry is survived by his brother John (Pat) Riss of Kangley, Illinois; sister Jo Lynne Peacock of Kangley, Illinois; children David Riss of Alaska, Dawn (Brian) Roesler of Colorado, Rustin (Doreen) Riss of Brighton, Colorado,
Justin (Jennifer) Riss of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Shana (Donald) Deckard of Big Lake, Minnesota and Angela (Paul) Peterson of Golden Valley, Minnesota;
thirteen grandchildren, Kieffer, Hilary, Annie, Rustin, Caetin, Devin, Delia, McKenna, Owen, Brennan, Cameron, Masyn, Tristyn and two on the way.
Larry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and vast number friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother Randy Riss, Aunt Joyce Oesch, Uncle Jim Blackburn and dear friend Joe Stortz.
