Lawrence “Larry” D. Slager, 84 of Streator passed away Sunday (September 9th) at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Following cremation his wishes were to have no services. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park at a later date.
The Winterrowd Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Larry was born on March 23, 1934 in Streator to Otto and Selma (Johnson) Slager. He married Jeanette Lippold Bacon on November 2, 1976. She survives.
Also surviving are children Sheri (Marty) Van Allen of Phoenix, AZ, Kim (John) Weik of Phoenix, AZ, Ginger Gwinn of Kansas, Bobby (Leta) SLager of Phoenix, AZ, Maxine (Dennis) Smith of Benton, Matthew (Jessica Stayton) Slager of Streator and Stephanie (Tom) Rader of Streator, 8 grandchildren including his special little buddy Johnathan Rader and 7 great-grandchildren.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, a son Stephen Slager and he was the last of his 14 siblings.
Larry graduated from Streator High School in 1952 and was retired from Libby Owens Ford in Ottawa as an electrician. After retirement he launched his own business (Larry’s Electric) for about 10 years where he focused on rewiring local homes and passed on that knowledge to his son Matthew. Larry was an avid reader and crossword puzzles. He knew an abundance trivial facts and of the Streator history.
