Mary Irene Nichols, 84 of Grand Ridge passed away Tuesday afternoon (July 8th) at the Ottawa Pavilion.
A visitation will be held Sunday from 2 â 6 PM with the rosary recited at 1:45 at the Grand Ridge Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 AM at the St. Maryâs of the Fields Church, Grand Ridge. Burial will be in St. Patrickâs Cemetery, Ransom. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeffrey, Brady Nichols, Jon Kilquist, Doug Cass and Brian Bressner and nephew Greg Durdan.
Mary was born on December 8, 1929 in rural Farm Ridge to Steve and Edna (Kuhn) Durdan. She married Lyle J. Nichols on August 8, 1951 he passed away July 4, 2011.
Surviving are children Dave (Joan) Nichols of Murphysboro, IL, Debbie (Byron) Long, Grand Ridge and Dan (Lori) Nichols of Streator, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brothers James Durdan, William (Phyllis) Durdan and Robert (Cheryl) Durdan all of Grand Ridge, brother-in-law Elden Nichols of Ransom and several nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister-in-law Marilyn Durdan.
Mary attended the Essex #95 grade school in rural Grand Ridge and was the last of the graduates of the Grand Ridge High School until they closed in 1946 and finished her final years at St. Xavier High School (Marquette) in 1947. She retired from the Grand Ridge Grade School Cafeteria in 1991 and was a member of the St. Maryâs of the Field Church.
Memorials may be made in Maryâs name to either St. Maryâs of the Fields Church or Marquette Academy.
