Michael J. Oldenburg

The children of Michael J. Oldenburg, 61 sadly announce the passing of their father after a brief illness. Michael passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 12:30pm at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Bloomington, Illinois with his three children by his side. 

Michael was born December 1, 1961, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Streator, IL to Charles and Lois (Price) Oldenburg. He was their second born child, joining his sister Julie in their household.

 Michael, more commonly referred to as “Mikey O” by his friends, grew up in the Streator and Manville areas where he jokingly referred to himself as the “Mayor Of Manville”. He attended Wilson Elementary School, Woodland Junior High, and Woodland High School, graduating with the Class of 1980. He attended Kishwaukee Community College in Malta, Illinois.

 Mike was a loving father to his three children, Zachary Michael, Taylor Jo, and Matthew David. He loved nothing more than spending time with them, camping, cooking out, laughing and was up for anything they wanted to do. He was proud of them, and they couldn’t have asked for a better father than the one they had.

 His laugh was infectious, his humor was legendary, his loyalty to his friends and family was unsurpassed. He left an indelible mark on his co-workers at Jim’s Formal Wear in Ottawa, IL.

 The pride Mike had for his children was duplicated when his grandchildren arrived. He was called Pepaq by his grandson Presley Michael and his granddaughter Rory Jo. He took them fishing, on golf cart rides and going to Pepaq’s house meant that whatever the two of them wanted to get away with, they had his full support.

 Mike was an athlete growing up and as an adult. He excelled at basketball, softball, and volleyball. He was a member of many local sports teams. He was an avid Chicago Bears, Bulls, and Cubs fan. 

 Mike leaves behind his parents, Chuck & Lois Oldenburg, Streator; his three children, Zachary (Rebecca Nielsen) Oldenburg of Chicago, Taylor Jo Oldenburg, Streator, and Matthew Oldenburg, Normal, Illinois; his grandchildren Presley & Rory Jo, Streator; his sister Julie (Mike) Hayes, Sesser, Illinois; and his aunt, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Lois Price and Edward and Vera Oldenburg. 

Cremation rites have been accorded by Winterrowd Funeral Home, Streator.

A private family memorial gathering will be held.
