Richard Gene Davis, born on January 12, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at the age of 83.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Leona; his beloved wife, Shirley; and his older brother, Raymond Jr. He is survived by his children, Richard Jr., Melody, Hope, Mark, Penny, Mike, and Heather; eighteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
A graduate of Downers Grove North High School in 1958, Richard went on to serve his country in the United States Army, earning an honorable discharge. He built a life centered on faith and family, purchasing a home in Westmont, Illinois, where he raised his family. Later in life, he resided in Streator, Illinois, continuing to nurture his growing family with love and guidance.
Richard worked for many years at Lewis Spring in Chicago and was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Clarendon Hills. Through his actions and words, he exemplified the importance of faith, compassion, forgiveness, and the enduring strength of family bonds.
In his leisure time, Richard enjoyed playing games with friends and family—especially Contract Rummy—and found joy in bowling, shooting pool, playing chess, camping, and fishing. He also delighted in solving Sudoku puzzles and piecing together jigsaw puzzles.
Richard’s legacy as a devoted father and grandfather will live on through the countless lives he touched. His memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Clarendon Hills on December 29th, 2024, at noon.
The Winterrowd Funeral Home, Streator, IL assisted the family with arrangements.
