Robert William Hefler, 90, of Makanda, IL and formerly of Streator passed away at 1:25 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Manor Court of Carbondale.
Robert was born on May 3, 1927 to William Christian and Anna Elizabeth (Yurch) Hefler in Streator.
He proudly served our country in the Armed Forces of the United States and later transferred to the Army Reserves. After his honorable discharge from the service in 1952 he became a self-employed talented craftsmen specializing in custom floor coverings for over 35 years. He enjoyed spending and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and sharing his passion for fishing with them.
Robert was united in marriage with the love of his life Anne Marie Yuhas on September 2, 1950 and spent many wonderful years together until her death on May 10, 2007.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Lee (Georgia) Hefler of Makanda, and Terry Alan Hefler of San Francisco, CA; two brothers, William John “Bill” Hefler of Streator, and James Carle “Jim” (Dolores) Hefler of Streator; three sisters, Shirley Ann McClellan of Streator, Doris Sue Tanner of Streator, and Joy Christine Brewer of Streator; Four Grandchildren; Eight Great-Grandchildren; Eight Great-Great-Grand Children; One Step-Grand Child; One Step-Great Grand Child; many nieces and nephews and beloved friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brother-in-laws and one sister-in-law.
Mass of Christian Burial for Robert William will be held Friday at 9 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 7 PM at Winterrowd-Hagi Funeral Home with the rosary recited at 6:45PM.
