Robert L. Zurlinden, 87 of Streator passed away Saturday, (Oct. 6th) at Heritage Heath and Rehabilitation in Streator.
A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10-11AM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11AM at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Phillips Cemetery.
Robert was born on June 18, 1925 in Dousman, WI to John Edward and Ethel (Skiles) Zurlinden.
He married Phyllis Jean Scrogham on November 27, 1947 in Streator, IL. She survives.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, Barbara (Gary) Robbins and Susan (Adam) Truchon both of Streator, sons, Steven (Cher) Zurlinden of Pocatello, ID, and Jeffery (Susan) Zurlinden of Spring Grove, IL, brother, Richard (Marie) Zurlinden of Manville, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Brian Zurlinden in infancy, grandson, John Zurlinden in infancy, and brothers, Clarence and Emory Zurlinden.
Bob graduated from Streator High School in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force.
Robert and his brothers Richard and Emory began Zurlinden Brothers Construction Co. following their father's retirement. Robert continued the business after his brothers moved or retired. He built many homes, barns, churches, and stores in Streator, Cornell, Long Point, Ottawa, Dwight, Marseilles, and other surrounding areas for over 40 years.
He was a member of the Streator Church of the Nazarene where he served in various roles over the years including Sunday School Superintendent, church board member, and Sunday school teacher. Highlights of his life included eleven Work and Witness trips with the Church of the Nazarene to several foreign countries including Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, South Africa, Brazil, and Tobago.
