Rodger D. Burns Sr. 71 of Streator passed away Friday morning (March 8, 2019) at his home.
A visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:30 – 11 AM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM at the funeral home with his son Rev. Chad Burns officiating and flag folding conducted by members of the Streator American Legion and VFW. Burial will be in the Esmen Camp Cemetery rural Cornell.
Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Thompson, Don Robertson, Arthur “Poncho” Bruce, Bill Weiss, Daniel Graham and Tom Cook.
Rodger was born on October 5, 1947 in Naylor, MO to Leon Dewey and Sylvia (Whittom) Burns. He married Marie Bruce Klein on September 25, 1999. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2014.
Surviving are children; Rodger (Brandi) Burns of Wenona, Bradley “Bruno” Burns of Toluca, Amy Burns Hogan of Streator and Rev. Chad Burns of Streator, grandchildren; Kaiden, Kalla, Kace, Taylor and Myah, Flinn Burns and Garrett Hogan, brothers; twin brother Rodney Burns of Harviell, MO, Glen (Gayla) Burns of Naylot, MO, sisters; Elaine (Rick) Kremer of Franklin, AK, Dewey (Jerry) Marshall of Windsor, SC, Velma (Don) Robertson of Naylor, MO and sister-in-law, Rhonda Burns of Naylor, MO.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother Charles.
Rodger served in the US Army from 1966 till 1968, he retired from Caterpillar in Pontiac and Pet Smart in Ottawa. He was a member of the Monday night Ideal VNEA pool league in Streator.
Memorials may be made in his name to either to the American Cancer Society or to the Disabled American Veterans.
