Russell Dean Jacobs, 101 formerly of the Long Point/Ancona area passed away Monday morning (April 23rd) at the Flanagan Rehabilitation and Health Care.
A visitation will be held Friday form 4- 7 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jay, Scott and Michael Jacobs, Alex Christensen, Zeb Jolliff and Chuck Garrett and nephew Bob Jacobs.
Russ was born on February 27, 1917 in Graymont to Anton and Maggie (Saathoff) Jacobs. He married Mary Elizabeth Baughman on January 25, 1940. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2009.
Surviving are sons James (Carol) Jacobs of Streator and Raymond “Butch” (Judi) Jacobs of Long Point. 7 grandchildren, Jay Jacobs, Scott (Jodi) Jacobs, Tina (Darrell) Barber, Michael (Tanya) Jacobs, Janelle (Alex) Christensen, Jill (Zeb Jolliff) Jacobs and JoLynn (Chuck) Garrett and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother in infancy and Anton G. Jacobs, sisters, Mary, Mildred, Alvina and Phoebe.
Russ attended Graymont Country Schools and Pontiac High School. He retired from farming in the Long Point/Ancona area. He was a member of the Long Point United Methodist Church, Chief City Saddle Club of Pontiac, Red Arrow Saddle Club of Streator and the Livingston County Farm Bureau. Russ loved his horses and can recall every one he ever owned or trained. His family calls him the original “Horse Whisperer”. He was known by all the nurses and CNA’s at the Flanagan Rehabilitation Health Care as “Cowboy”.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Livingston County AG Fair.
