Ruth I. Smith

Ruth I. Smith, 76 of Wenona and formerly of Streator passed away Sunday (August 20, 2023) at Pavilion of Ottawa surrounded by loved ones.

Following cremation, a visitation will be held Thursday (Aug. 31^st) from 2 – 5 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.  Services will be held Thursday at 5PM at the funeral home with burial in the Hope Cemetery, Lostant at a later date.

Ruth was born on June 12, 1947, in Streator to Ralph and Garnett (McDonald) Benedict.  She married Charles Smith on April 15, 1989.  He survives.

Also surviving are children, Kristina Plymire of Wenona, Ralph Quinn of Phoenix, AZ, Mark (Lisa) Overocker of Newton, KS, Terra (Dave) Gage of Streator and Julie (Mark) Johnson of Chattanooga, TN, 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a sister Flora Stechman of Milam, TX.

She is preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Jennifer Taylor, son in law Gregory Plymire Sr., brothers Davey and Ralph Benedict, father-in-law and mother-in-law Marion and Esther Smith.

Ruth attended Streator grade schools and Streator High School.  She was baptized at the Holy Trinty Lutheran Church.  Ruth was a former member of the Streator Eagles and Moose Lodge.
