Sandra "Sandy" L. Shinkey

Sandra “Sandy” L. Shinkey, 78 of Long Point passed Thursday evening (February 9^th) at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria

Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 – 3 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 PM at the funeral home with cremation rites following services.  Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery at a later date.

Sandy was born May 14, 1938 in Chicago to William and Vera (Buzzard) Krumscheid.  She married John D. Shinkey on September 5, 1964.  He preceded her in death on February 19, 2014.

Surviving are children Bob (Kim) Shinkey of Streator, Tammy Shinkey of Peoria and John (Kathy) Shinkey of Flanagan and daughter-in-law Bonnie Sherburne of Iowa, seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Terry, 2 infant daughters and granddaughter Jennifer Shinkey, brothers Jerry and Richard Krumscheid and a sister Mildred.

Sandy attended schools in Chicago and the Assembly of God Church and retired from Thatcher Glass Mfg., she enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in her name to either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in honor of her granddaughter Jessica Shinkey or Lurie Memorial Children’s Hospital, Chicago in honor of great-granddaughter Megan Shinkey.
