Shirley Elizabeth Sulzberger-Baker

Shirley E. Sulzberger Baker, 81 of Streator passed away Saturday morning (March 23, 2019) at Parker Nursing and Rehabilitation Health Care.

A visitation will be held Tuesday from 11 – 1 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Callister officiating.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Justin, Jordan and Joshua Luckey, Andrew and Aaron Berta and great-nephews Ryan and Kyle Dickman.

Shirley was born on September 4, 1937 in Streator to John and Freida (Lawton) Faulkner.  She married Darryld Sulzberger Sr on January 22, 1954.  He preceded her in death on June 1, 1969.  She later married Ronald Baker on September 12, 1980.  He survives.

Also surviving are daughters Pam (Paul) Luckey of Streator and Tracy (Brian) Berta of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 8 grandchildren, Justin (Audrey), Jordan (Joannie) and Joshua (Mollie) Luckey, Andrew (Aurelie), Ashley, Alyssa, Aaron and Abigail Berta, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 due in September, sister Nancy M. Centko of Streator, niece Brenda Dickman of Streator and a great-niece Erin Dickman and great-nephews Ryan and Kyle Dickman. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, 1^st husband Darryld and son Darryld Jr, daughter Dawn Ellen, granddaughter Lindsey Luckey, brother Robert Carl Faulkner and brother-in-law Terry Centko.

Shirley attended Wilson School and she retired from St. Mary’s Hospital as switchboard operator.  Shirley was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Chat and Chew Club.  She enjoyed playing bingo, dancing, playing cards and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in her name to either the Susan G. Komen Foundation, American Lung Association or to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
