William Randall Maddux, (90), was born on January 7, 1934, and passed away at home on April 15, 2024, surrounded by his wife, daughters and brother. William was born in Chicago and grew up in Long Point. He graduated from Long Point High School and played on the baseball and basketball teams while attending Millikin University. He served in the Army (SP3) from 1957 to 1959. Bill was employed by Owens Illinois Glass for a bit before he started a lifelong venture in Farming through the next 63 years even helping out with the 2023 harvest last fall.
He served on the Woodland School Board and became president of the Board. From that he was asked to serve on the County School board. Bill was an active member of the community serving on the County Committee for the ASCS Office, the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Council, Treasurer of the Long Point Fire Department, and became the Village President for Long Point.
Bill was the son of William and Mildred (Gill) Maddux. He married Beverly (Steinke), the love of his life on April 10, 1955. She survives along with four daughters Jan (Bill) Gaff, Julie (Greg) Troemel, Judy (Rob) Mehalic and Jacque (Mel) McMeen. He loved all of his grandchildren, Will (Sheila) Gaff, Whitney (Sean) Wagner, Weslie (Vance) Sawyer, Taylor (Drew) Williams, Tony (Kelsey) Troemel, Jessica (Nathan) Long, Jenna (Nick) Tipsord, Mitch (Alison) McMeen, and Mollie (Dan) Getz. He was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren, Liam, Harper, Everly, Bodie, Mabel, Summer, Henley, Andi, Leo, Breelyn, Beckham, Gideon and Judah. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Karen) Maddux, Orange TX, David (Phyllis) Maddux, Streator, and sister Jo Ellen Maddux, Bremerton, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara.
Bill loved sports, the Chicago Cubs, and anything John Deere. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and such an outstanding role model for his family. As per Bill’s wishes, private family services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Winterowd Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Streator or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
